Sharlot Hall Event

Dear Home School Families,

On January 23, we’re opening a new computerized feature in the Sharlot Hall Building at the Sharlot Hall Museum. It is a kiosk with a touch screen monitor that is called the Rose Garden Discovery Kiosk.  It will allow our young visitors to assess three educational games.  One of them is a matching game about tools and transportation in the 19th and 20th centuries.  A second one challenges youngsters to “Pack their Wagon” for a trip across the country. The third one compares and contrasts women’s work roles during the 19th and 20th centuries. It is animated by a young Sharlot who throws a horse shoe around the correct answer. The last one is designed for 6th grade and up while the first two are designed for 2nd to 4th graders.  This kiosk will also contain over 175 biographies of women honored through the Territorial Memorial Rose Garden.

In the afternoon of Jan. 23, from 1-3:30, the museum will offer free admission for families coming to see the Rose Garden Discovery Kiosk. There will be a panel discussion for adults about the Rose Garden project and the honorees. Children’s activities will be in the Education Office and the Sharlot Hall Building. If you’re free that day, come and visit.  We’ve tried the activities with children and they enjoy them!  Many thanks to the home school families who have helped to test the activities!  I hope you can make it on January 23 at 1 p.m.
